Kentucky Down Under

We spent a night in Cave City so we could venture down into the caves, see the kangaroo, and go down the zip line. Here are a few pictures from our trip.

Our horseback riding experience was not so much fun for me. I was on a horse that attracted a HUGE horsefly. Needless to say, I screamed a lot and was almost thrown off several different times. In the end, I ended up with a sore rump and being laughed at by Kelsey and Rusty. I will never ride a horse again! :) Here are some normal, non-life threatening pictures.

Here are two videos of us on the ziplines. This was one of our favorite parts of the trip. Kelsey loved the zipline and wanted to go by herself. Of course, that is not possible on the long one. So, she thought we should all go again.

Dentist

Kelsey had her first dentist visit today. She loved the neat sunglasses she got to wear and the special table she laid on while they cleaned her teeth. She didn't care for the x-rays but she did a fabulous job. Everyone was so proud of her!

Vacation-Day 7

The last day was spent shopping at the outlet mall and dinner at Uncle Bill's house. Kelsey got in the pool at Bill's and has started putting her face in the water. She was able to hold her breathe for 10 seconds! Her swim lessons have really helped.

Tomorrow we are off to the airport for our trip home. We have had a great vacation and can't wait for next year!!

Vacation-Day 5 & 6

Day 5 was spent like this...sleeping and chilling by the pool (in between the torrential downpours of rain).
Day 6 was a little more exciting since we'd had a day of rest. We headed to Downtown Disney for Kelsey's Bippity Boppity Boutique appointment. The boutique is in the World of Disney and we reported at 12:15 for her12:30 appointment. Kelsey chose Cinderella's dress and we were taking to a dressing room for her to change. Here is the pre-make over picture.

Then, her fairy godmother put on her glass slippers and Kelsey was walked through the store as they called, "The princess is coming, make way for the princess!"

She was walked to the front window of The World of Disney. There was a special station up front where she was transformed into a princess. Of course she had an entourage that was impress anyone. Gi-Gi, Uncle Bill, Skylar, Uncle Jim, Ya-Ya, Grampy, Rusty and I were all there to watch her transformation. Plus, she had a photographer capture every moment!
This is a guard that is put up before sprinkling the glitter, or sparkles as Kelsey calls it, in her hair! Kelsey loved this part!

We spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and had a yummy lunch at The Rainforest Cafe. Here are a few pictures from outside of the LEGO Imagination Center.

Vacation-Day 4

Today was our last day at Disney World. We started off with breakfast at Cinderella's Table. Uncle Bill, Gi-Gi and Skylar joined us for the day. Kelsey was able to spend time with Cinderella, Snow White, Princess Aurora, Ariel, and Belle.
The rest of the day was spent revisiting her favorite rides and taking in a few new ones. We stayed and watched the fireworks and then took the ferry back to the car instead of the monorail.
After 3 days of visiting the parks we were exhausted and needed a calm, relaxing day.

Vacation-Day 3

Today we visited Disney's Hollywood Studios, formerly known as MGM Studios. We started off at the 3-D Toy Story Mania attraction since that is one of the most popular and tends to have a long line. Kelsey saw a lot of the characters today and that was her favorite part! She was so excited to see Mickey and Minnie again! We saw the Little Einsteins, Cpt. Hook and Mr. Smee, but she did not want to meet them so we just waved to them from afar.
Rusty thought it would be a good idea to challenge Mr. Incredible. Needless to say, he did not prevail! :)
Well, Kelsey did not care to meet Pooh, but Rusty wanted to!Kelsey loved The Voyage of the Little Mermaid and was disappointed we did not see her at the park. While Ya-Ya, Rusty and I went on The Tower of Terror Kelsey stayed with Grampy and cooled off with some ice cream and played with the camera. She took a pretty good picture of Grampy!Today was also the last day of the Star Wars weekend and the park was busier than normal. There are only a few a year so the Star Wars fans come from all over to see the special events and to get autographs. We were greeted by the stormtroopers when we entered the park and we able to see many of the characters from the movies. Mom and I had our picture taken with Luke and C-3PO. We weren't as excited about Luke, but it was fun.
We made reservations to eat at the 50's Prime Time Cafe. We enjoyed home cooked food with service from a typical mom from the 1950's. It is a fun place to eat and somewhere worth visiting if you are there.

Vacation-Day 2

Today we woke up and went to the Magic Kingdom. We got a little lost on the way...but it ended up working to our advantage. Kelsey was so excited to see Mickey Mouse!!

We started in Fantasyland with all of the rides. Kelsey's favorite ride was the Tea Cups! She wanted to spin very fast and make everyone dizzy! Right outside the tea cups we met Mr. Rabbit.

We were able to see a lot of characters throughout the day. Her favorite was Minnie and Mickey, but the princesses were quite a hit as well.

Well, neither Kelsey nor daddy could pull out the sword.

Then, off to the race track...Kelsey got her driver's license today! She was a great driver.
We had a few long lines so Kelsey spent the time entertaining herself and the other kids around us with BUBBLES!!
We stayed late and watched the electrical parade.

Overall it was a great day. It was hot, but not miserable and the park was not nearly as crowded as it could have been. I don't think we stood in line longer than 25 minutes for anything. We did take advantage of the fast passes as much as we could.

Vacation-Day 1

Kelsey was very excited about the ride in the airplane. She couldn't wait to get to the airport. After a short delay we found our seats and settled in for the 1.5 hour flight. As soon as we took off Kelsey said, "We did it (flying) like the Bubble Guppies!" Here are a few other cute comment she made. "We're like angels" "Oh, we're up in the clouds." The rest of the flight was not as fun as the first few minutes so she took a nap for the reminder of the flight.

When we landed at the Sanford/Orlando airport we found our bags and picked up our rental. We toted ALL of the stuff to the car in 1 trip. I think we all looked like pack mules. But, we made it.

Then, we headed to dinner with Uncle Jim and Gi-Gi at The Olive Garden.

After dinner, we finally headed toward our resort, The Fountains, on International Drive. Here is a picture from our back deck.

It was a beautiful resort and Kelsey immediately took advantage of the bathtub in our room. She took a bath every night we were there!

We were late getting to bed since we were going to be up early the next morning.

Happy Easter

The Easter Bunny, "EB", was very good to Kelsey this year. She had 3 baskets full of goodies, several presents, a sand turtle and a playhouse! Since Mother Nature called for rain he had to leave all of Kelsey's eggs in the house. We weren't sure he'd visited the house because we couldn't find any eggs or any Easter baskets. But we went downstairs and found he'd left all the goodies there. We were even more surprised to find he'd left some treats outside as well!

Wow! A new house just for Kelsey. We celebrated with confetti eggs that the Easter Bunny left. Kelsey had fun putting the confetti on daddy's head!

He also left Kelsey a sandbox turtle. She can't wait to have a couple of nice days so she can really play!

Christmas Eve, Round 1

Kelsey has been on a gift-opening extravaganza for about 3 weeks. It all started the first of December when she began getting birthday presents in the mail and it hasn't stopped! Our Christmas session started Christmas Eve at Ya-Ya and Grampy's house. We had Christmas dinner and opened gifts. Kelsey had on an adorable Christmas outfit, but opted for her dance outfit and flip flops. Oh well, some battles just aren't worth fighting.

My cousin Jonathan was married today at The Henry Clay in Louisville to a beautiful bride, Megan. They had a beautiful wedding and are such a sweet couple. We are very glad to welcome Megan into our family!

Kelsey had her first sleepover this weekend with her cousins, Abbey & Emily. They had the best time together! We moved the bed in the den since our basement is being redone and a complete disaster. They cuddled up and watched movies and ate popcorn.

Here is a preview of some of the birthday party pictures. Robin came and took pictures of the kids and Kelsey opening all of the presents. Here are just a few Grampy took. This year we had Kelsey's party at The Movie Tavern. It is a movie theater in Lexington where you can watch a movie and eat dinner or in our case, breakfast. This morning all of Kelsey's friends gathered together for a private showing of Tangled, Disney's latest princess movie about Rapunzel. The kids and adults loved the movie. It was in 3D, but I'm not sure how many of them wore their glasses. All in all, we had 47 people there and enjoyed unlimited pancakes and drinks.

Kelsey's dance studio performed The Nutcracker this weekend. There were 2 performances one at 2:00 and the other at 6:30. Kelsey was a snowflake and danced with Miss Carrie a snowflake princess. Emily had her birthday at the bowling alley. This was a new experience for Kelsey. She loved to bowl and didn't have a good understanding of taking turns. She bowled for a few people and it was not always at their request. But, she had a good time with her cousins!

Rusty built a mini haunted house in mom and dad's garage. The kids had to walk in to receive their trick or treat bag. Kelsey was really good at pointing them in the right direction and assuring them it was not very scary. It seemed so strange to trick or treat while it was still daylight. But, Kelsey had a great time and was the most beautiful cupcake fairy I've ever met.

WEG

We went to the team vaulting event at the World Equestrian Games (WEG). It was very exciting as Team USA won the event and it was the 1st time we'd ever won a gold medal in this event. It was a very exciting event to watch.

Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg

We spent a few days in Gatlinburg over our fall break. One of the first things we did when we hit Sevierville was to take a helicopter ride. Kelsey didn't like the loud noise, but loved the view. We were about 1250 feet in the air and had a beautiful view.

Here is Rusty and Kelsey getting ready for our ride. Kelsey had the opportunity to sit up front with the pilot, but she chose the backseat with dad.

The next day we headed into Gatlinburg and rode the tram up the mountain to Ober Gatlinburg. On the way back down Kelsey found a hole in the floor. She spent the entire ride on her hands and knees looking out the hole. There was another little girl there as well and they took turns watching the trees pass by as we rode down the mountain.

Kelsey and I rode the alpine slide. She did most of work and controlled the brakes. The faster the better, so we didn't use it much!

After we got down the mountain we hit a mine in town. We chose a bucket of sand and Kelsey found several "pretty rocks." She had the best time and didn't want or need our help. Once we showed her a few times; she had it under control.

This is the closest Kelsey got to Santa. Looks like we are going to have to wait another year for her to sit on Santa's lap and tell him what she wants for Christmas. She did write him a letter and mail it while we were there.

We also spent some time at one of the small amusement parks. It had a large section of kiddie rides and 2 big go-cart tracks.

We had a great mini vacation and can't wait for our next trip!

Frankfort's World Equestrian Festival

Frankfort held a small children's festival for the World Equestrian Games (WEG) that were being held in Lexington. They had several games and a few performers. We headed out for the day and enjoyed the festivities.

We went to the state fair again this year. This time we convinced Ya-Ya, Grampy, and Uncle EJ to go with us. We hit the rides first, had a lunch, and spent some time going through the vendor booths. Kelsey's Special Day!!

Kelsey's special day is August 21st. This is the anniversary of her homecoming. On August 21, 2008 she joined our family forever. This year we celebrated by having Mawmaw, Grampy, and Ya-Ya over for dinner. Again, we had some of Kelsey's favorites: ham, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, and vanilla muffins. Yummy!! Thanks Ya-Ya, the food was delicious. Ya-Ya also made Kelsey an airplane cake...it was good too.

Dance Class

Kelsey has started taking dance class. She will be going on Tuesday evenings for the next few months. So far she really enjoys going and she's already learned so much. Well, here is my first cake using the Cricut Cake. I was pretty pleased with it. It was also the first time I covered a round cake with fondant. I'm still learning, but was fairly happy with my first attempt.

Nashville

Mom, Granny, Kelsey, and I spent 5 days in Nashville recently. I had a conference to attend and they explored the city, mainly the mall, during the day. Then at night we'd enjoy dinner at a new yummy place. The first night in town we went downtown and had dinner at the Spaghetti Factory. Kelsey loved Ya-Ya's spaghetti.

The next night we had dinner at the Aquarium and Kelsey rode the carousel after dinner. She was mesmerized by the fish, sharks, and stingrays in the tanks.

Here is Kelsey and Ya-Ya with their wristbands on their foreheads. They were being silly!

Ya-Ya and GiGi took Kelsey to the Nashville Zoo the next day. They were less than impressed, but it got them out of the hotel for the day.

We had a great trip, but I think we were all ready to come home. Kelsey did a great job being off her typical routine.

Rusty and Kelsey attended a workshop at Lowe's this weekend. They made the cutest little flower box. They had a great time during their father/daughter day.

The Vaught girls were there with their daddy too. They all made great flower boxes and then headed over to the YMCA kids day for some fun on the bouncies.

As many of you know I have been playing with cake decorating. Here are my 1st two attempts. The first cake was for mom's birthday in March. It's not great, but I was pleased with it since it was my 1st attempt with fondant. I learned a lot while making it.

Now, here is my 2nd attempt. It turned out MUCH better. This cake was for a friend's baby shower. I knew what I needed to do and things turned out so much better. The fondant was smoother and the polka dots are super cute.

Today I ordered the cricut cake so I can cut gum paste and fondant figures, designs, etc. I can't wait to get it and try out a few cakes. I plan on making a few for work and for the family so I can experiment.

Kelsey loved looking for eggs this year. She had 1 basket and 2 bags full of goodies from the Easter Bunny.

Today Kelsey and Rusty had a father/daughter day. Buffalo Trace and Parks and Rec teamed up to host an Easter Egg Hunt for the community. Rusty said it was a little wild and some parents were a little too serious about finding eggs, but Kelsey was able to score 6 eggs. She has a great time. Now she is sacked out on the couch.

Beauty and the Beast Character Breakfast

Franklin County High School will be putting on the play Beauty and the Beast. They held a character breakfast today. Kelsey had her picture taken with Belle, played some games, and made a beautiful crown. Here are a few pictures. I'll try to scan the picture of her and Belle and add it soon.

Gymnastics

Kelsey attended her 1st gymnastics class today. She was not as cooperative as we'd hoped, but hope it will get better. She started to warm up right as it was time to leave.

We got Kelsey a water table for Valentine's Day. She loves to play in the water so we thought this would be a great gift for her. Of course, she loved it and our kitchen floor is always clean now!

Snowman

Today Kelsey and Rusty got out and made 2 snowmen. They made one at our house and then one at Grampy and Ya-Ya's. Kelsey loves the snow and didn't want to come in and eat dinner. She cried and ran around the yard trying to get away from Rusty. She was so cold and full of snow, but she didn't care. I'm sure her and Rusty will be back out there again tomorrow as Rusty has another snow day.

KaZoing!

This weekend Kelsey and I were invited to a Latin Family Adoption Celebration of The Three Kings. It was held at KaZoing in Louisville. KaZoing is a bounce house with several inflatables. Of course, that is Kelsey's favorite thing.

The group started off with a short story about Three Kings Day and the children all made crowns. Kelsey loved gluing on the jewels!

While the crowns dried, the kids got to play on the many inflatables. We had fun and we were all tired by the time we left the room. Kelsey wanted to go through the obstacle course like the big kids. We only went once, that was all I could take!

However, she was able to climb up the big slide by herself today. But, she tended to back up the line. At times, she'd turn around and stop on the steps and look at everyone or she'd plop at the bottom of the stairs and make everyone walk over her. She was so silly.

She started to wear down a bit and decided to play with some of the other toys in the bounce room.

While we were busy playing, the Three Kings visited the craft room and left each child a gift. Kelsey got a small gift from each of the 3 Kings. Here she is with one of her small gifts and wearing her crown.

Playing in the Snow

Yesterday we got our first decent snow this winter. We bundled Kelsey up in her snow suit, boots, and gloves and headed out for some sledding.

At first she screamed, yelled, and carried on like a crazy child. She did not want to get in her sled. Even though she'd played in it all day inside the house. Once we finally got her buckled in and Rusty took off she was fine. Well, more than fine. She loved it!! We started off easy on the street and Rusty ran around pulling her behind him.

We have a small hill on the left side of our house. This was just big enough for Kelsey to slide down by herself. She loved it and didn't want to come back inside. She just laid back and enjoyed the ride. Here is dad pulling her back up the hill.

Christmas

We started off our Christmas festivities on Christmas Eve with Ya-Ya, Grampy, and Uncle EJ. We had our traditional appetizer spread with lots of presents.

On Christmas morning Kelsey woke up to lots of gifts from Santa. She was pretty tired out from helping all of us open our gifts the night before, but she managed to at least open her big gifts. I had to help her open the others. Here is Kelsey and dad looking at her new bouncy!

Wow, a train table! Kelsey will love playing with it!

Dad likes this bouncy better than the Jump-o-lene because he can actually get in this one! He still can't really jump, but at least he can be in there with Kelsey.

Kelsey got a new vanity for Christmas from Uncle EJ. She loved sitting at it and playing with the hair dryer, mirror, and brush.

Curlers

I decided it was time for Kelsey to experience the sponge curlers! Well, it wasn't very successful. But, I'm not sure I left them in long enough. I'd planned on being home all day and then decided to go to lunch with mom and dad. So I tried to blow dry her hair while still in the curlers. We didn't even get a little bit of a wave when I took them out. So, we'll have to try them again sometime.

Since she is very much 2, we had to still wear our grown up panties. So, we put them on over her pants. I can't wait to show her this picture again in 15 years! Priceless!

1st Haircut

Kelsey finally had her 1st haircut. I know it was well overdue. She loved the salon since it had a big slide and balloons. But, she didn't want to sit in the chair by herself. Even though there was a horse, Barbie car, John Deere tractor, airplane, and motorcycle to choose from. She decided mom's lap was the best place to sit. We only trimmed the ends and it took about 2 minutes.

Ta-dah! We're all finished...can you even tell she got a trim?

Kentucky Horse Park Lights

We made our annual trip to the Kentucky Horse Park for the Christmas lights. This year we went with The Gibson's. They are in the process of adopting from Korea and are hoping for a referral very soon! Before our trip to the lights we ate dinner at a traditional Korean restaurant in Lexington, Arirang. It was very good. Rusty and I played it safe and had the combination fried rice. Kelsey had a little white rice and a lunchable! She did get to use Pororo training chopsticks. It was really cute and she did a great job. I'm going to have to order some very soon for her. She seemed really interested.

After dinner we headed out to the lights. It was PACKED! Kelsey loved the lights. She kept saying, "more, more!" While we were there we walked through and saw the trains, vendors, and animals. Kelsey fed several of the animals in the petting zoo.

Check Up

Kelsey had her 2 year check up yesterday. She is doing great. She only picked up a little over a pound, but gained several inches. She is a tall girl. She is in the 70th percentile for height because they measured her standing up. Apparently you lose an inch when they do that, otherwise she would have been in the 90th percentile. She is in the 50th percentile for weight. She will need to get her eyes checked this summer and she'll see a dentist next year. So, everything looks good!

Party at Bounce U

We had Kelsey's party at Bounce U this morning in Lexington. It's a place with a room full of inflatables for kids AND parents to enjoy. I think the adults had as much as the kids. For instance...here is one set of grown-ups that played. Gee, where are the kids?!

After an hour of bouncing we went to the party room for pizza, cake, and presents. Kelsey was not interested in the pizza, but she LOVED the cake. Of course, she didn't want to eat it. She just kept saying "Roro!" So here is the best birthday cake ever. It was well worth the wait and a big hit. It not only looked pretty, but tasted WONDERFUL.

Kelsey, Ya-Ya, Grampy, Rusty, and I went to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate her birthday. She didn't really want to ride any of the rides. She really liked playing the different games.
Then, we went home and Grampy bought Kelsey a little cake for her to eat and we opened presents. Kelsey got some neat stuff. So, round 1 of presents! It sure didn't take her long to figure out how to open those presents. She is a pro!

Kelsey sees Santa

Kelsey, Ya-Ya, Grampy, and I went to visit Santa on lunch one day. Kelsey loved Santa or HoHo from afar, but not up close. We got a picture, but she is clearly distraught! Then, she made a birdfeeder out of a pine cone, peanut butter, and birdseed. She had a great time making her bird snack!

Decorating for Christmas

Kelsey helped me decorate one of our trees this year. She did a great job!!

There is one part of the tree that Kelsey thought was extra special since that is where she put ALL of her ornaments and garland!!

So far she has been pretty good about leaving the ornaments on the tree and not really touching them too much. But, she loves the presents and we have not been able to put those under the tree yet.

Today we had 2 Thanksgiving dinners to attend. The first was with the Howson clan and then the Willhoites. Kelsey spent most of her 1st dinner in just a diaper because she got cranberry sauce all over her shirt. She didn't seem to mind.

Kelsey had a ball playing with the olives...she didn't like to eat them but they provided tons of entertainment for her.

Build a Frosty...

Today we went to Build a Bear so Kelsey could get Frosty. This is her first trip to the store and we weren't sure how she would react. She was interested in many of the accessories, but was actually very focused on her Frosty. I was really surprised. I thought she'd run like a crazy kid through the store. She didn't even notice that Frosty was flat.

Kelsey did not like the machine that added the stuffing. I think the loud noise scared her.

Again she was not crazy about the noise that the air bath made. So, she fluffed him up without the air.

We had to dress Frosty in his scarf and give him his broom and pipe.

We took Kelsey to get her 2nd year birthday pictures taken and to get our Christmas cards made. Let's just say it was not as happy of an experience as it appears in the picture. But, we got 2 decent pictures. One for Christmas and one for her birthday. Here is our Christmas picture. I ordered it in color, but thought the black and white version would be a good one to post.

I really wish we would have gotten a better picture in her hanbok this year, but it was such a fight to just get this one. She loved to wear the dress, but HATED the jacket.

Deodorant

We learned a long time ago that Kelsey watches everything we do. Lately we've been reminded of how much she truly watches us. The other morning she came out of the bedroom with my deodorant. I wasn't sure what she was doing with it as she appeared to be bringing it to me. The next thing I know she popped off the top and started putting it on. It was so funny. But at least I know she will have good hygiene when she gets older!!

Swim Lessons

Kelsey has been taking swim lessons at the YMCA. We go twice a week for 4 weeks. She has been great. She loves jumping in the water from the steps and from the side of the pool. She doesn't love the water in her face, but she doesn't cry either. She is just starting to figure out how to kick and looks forward to going each week.

Today we went to Capital City Christian for Trunk or Treating. She was a little intimidated by the costumes. She was easily frightened. But, she still had a good time. Here she is hiding.

We ran into her cousins: Abbey & Emily. They all went down the big slide.

Trick or Treating at the library

Today Grampy & Ya-Ya took Kelsey to the library to trick or treat. The kids got to listen to 5 different stories that were read by the story book characters and then got a little treat. Kelsey was scared by some of the costumes, but did okay.

As you can see Kelsey is a hula girl this year. She wasn't wild about wearing her lei, but was eventually convinced! Geez...hope she does okay with it tomorrow!

Pumpking Carving

Well, it took a few weeks, but we finally got our pumpkin carved. We had two, but one of them was a little too soft on the bottom. Kelsey did not enjoy it as much this year. She didn't want to touch the pumpkin seeds and help scoop out the yucky stuff. She is not a fan of getting her hands dirty. So, she mainly supervised Rusty and I!

Bi-Water Farm

Today we made a trip to Georgetown to Bi-Water Farm. Kelsey got to paint a pumpkin at Totter Otterville yesterday, but today we got to pick out the pumpkins we are going to carve. The Bi-Water Autumnfest was amazing. There were slides, an animal petting/feeding area, a corn maze, haunted houses, pumpkins, train rides, hay rides, playground, etc. It went on and on and on and Kelsey loved all of it. She had to try out everything. We ended up leaving with 2 good pumpkins that we are going to try to carve later this week.
